Thierry Schoysman said:
“I wrote ‘Life’s Too Short for Ironing” and “The Carrott Cake Calypso” during a week at the end of the year when I was feeling a bit bored. It wasn’t a sudden inspiration, but really a desire to write something for two mandolins. Both pieces are definitely inspired by my mandolin hero: David Grisman, thinking about his use of pentatonic scales and his rhythm.”
“Signe set herself the goal of writing one piece a day for a month. Which she accomplished. Her idea was to take an existing piece she had just learned, keep the key and tempo, but completely change the melody and chords. Then we chose which of her compositions could form a medley with my two originals. We selected “Monts des Arts” and “The Cherry Tree Hornpipe.”
